1.0 INTRODUCTION

1.1 Background of study
Introduction;
Background of study.
Wireless technologies had been implemented in education years ago and the usage had gradually increased from time to time. Wireless, which provides “anytime, anywhere”, access to resources and have tremendous impacts on teaching, learning, and student collaboration. Lots of universities around the world had been provided wireless technologies and abound it in order to enhance a new style of education in their universities. Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP), is one of university around the world that been provided wireless technologies since 2004. This study is about to explore the usage of wireless technologies among the second year student of UMP.

1.2 Problem Statement
We have choose this title as our research because we found that there are many students misunderstanding about wireless technology. They just know that wireless technology is only internet. After do some research we know that wireless technology not only the internet but contains of GPRS, Bluetooth, radio, and others. We hope that this research can give them more understanding about wireless technology.

1.3 Research Objectives

i. To find out UMPs' second year manufacturing engineering students knowledge about wireless technology.
ii. To determine how frequent the usage of wireless technology among the student.
iii. To explore the benefits of wireless technology among students in their activities.

1.4 Research Questions

i. Do the students know about wireless technology?
ii. How often do the students use wireless technology in their daily life?
iii. What is the advantages of wireless technology in the students activities?

1.5 Definition of terms

Wireless is a term used to describe telecommunications in which electromagnetic waves (rather than some form of wire) carry the signal over part or all of the communication path.
Wireless networking, is defined as technology that allows two or more computers, to communicate, (enabling file sharing, printer sharing, internet connection), using standard protocol but without the use of network cabling.
Satellite Communication is available everywhere and only requires a special satellite dish, a satellite modem, (reception equipment), and the software to run it. The satellite dish is usually just a few inches larger that a TV satellite dish, although new styles are being designed all the time. Satellite wireless internet offers a connection speed up to 500Kbps.
GPRS is an acronym for General Packet Radio System, is only available in some areas and offers a connection speed from 56 Kbps to 115 Kbps.

1.6 Review of methodology

In methodology, we include all the steps that will be taken to investigate the question under consideration such as data collection and data analysis. Data collection we collected using questionnaire which have 2 types. There is open ended and closed ended. For data analysis we use computer software like Microsoft office excel to analysis statistic of questionnaires.

1.7 Organization of chapter

In this report, we have three chapters to conduct. First is introduction which we will evaluate about background of study, problem statement, review of literature, research objective, research question, definition of terms, review of methodology and organization of chapters. Second, review of literature is divided into three sections. There are development of wireless technology, advantages of wireless technology and implementation of higher education in wireless technology. Lastly is about methodology that include the introduction to chapter, description of participants, data collection instruments and data analysis. We also include references to revise the article web and questionnaire.
